Frequently Asked Questions

Running Picture

Q: How fit do I need to be?

All of the activities require a resonable level of general fitness, but clearly there are differences between abseiling and sailing weekends. You should be taking part in a physical activity of some kind 2 - 3 times a week and be able to walk 4 -5 miles with no problem. You do not need to be a competitive tri-athlete however!

Q: What if I have a medical condition that might affect my ability to take part in an event?

We need to know if you have a pre-existing medical condition of some kind, whether this is a chronic condition such as asthma or the effects of a recent sports injury. This is for your safety and protection as much as ours and our partners. As long as you let us know beforehand it's unlikely that we won't be able to accommodate or take into account your special requirements.

Q: What equipment should I bring to an event?

This will depend on what type of activity weekend you are going to take part in and we will provide you in advance with an equipment and clothing list specifically for your chosen event. We have included some general advice on the website which can be found on the 'more information' pages. If you have any questions at all on this aspect of the event please contact us on e-mail: admin@eventstogether.co.uk or call 020 8241 2907

Q: What clothing should I bring to an event?

This is similar to the above question. Although of course you will want to bring clothing that you feel comfortable in for 'normal' wear as well as any outdoor wear.

Q: Do I need Personal Insurance?

This is mandatory for any overseas trips. Whilst it is not pre-requisite to taking part in any of our activity weekends, Events Together Limited strongly recommends that its clients take out their own personal accident insurance. You may also wish to consider specific cover for any valuable equipment. Events Together recommends specialist cover from the British Mountaineering Council

Q: What's the split male to female at the events?

We aim to get but can't guarantee a 50 /50 split for all events but this is only 'firm' for sailing events as it has to be due to the layout of the cabins. We can adapt this to 60/40 on board either way however and it may be that we still have a greater percentage of one sex than the other. We will always consider appropriate arrangements in relation to privacy however. In reality it varies from event to event and so far any imbalance has not been an issue as everyone has had a great time. Please see our Terms and Conditions for more information.

Q: What kind of people come to an event?

Great people like you of course! Our clients are from a wide range of backgrounds from a Architect to Zoologist (literally!) but we find that the kind of people who are interested in active pursuits and maybe trying something new and who are prepared to come along on their own are very sociable friendly individuals. We have had enquiries from people who are genuinely concerned about this issue and it really is a case of this being the last thing you need to be worried about! This is arguably the best aspect of the event.

Note that if you don't feel comfortable sharing accommodation and 'mucking in' together or you are not prepared to make any compromises on your normal levels of comfort or privacy, or you prefer to spend most of your time alone in general, these events are not for you!

Q: Do you offer breaks for more than a weekend or do you run 1or 2 week holidays?

Yes - Our skiing breaks are for one week or for'long weekends' as we believe if you are going to travel to the Alps, the experience needs to be for more than a two day weekend. Our planned 2007 summer European experiences will be of a similar length for the same reason. Other than that the feedback we are getting is that for a taster of a new activity and a taster of meeting new people a weekend is just about right. We haven't got any plans to run one or two week holidays other than the skiing at present but then again never say never!

Q: What if there's a group of friends who want to go an Events Together weekend?

If you want to come along to an event with a friend that's absolutely fine. If there are more than three of you however, we would look to set up an event specifically for your group. We feel that if everyone else on a given event has come on their own then a larger group of people who arrive together would alter the dynamic of the event too much. We are very happy to set up an event specifically for groups if you like the look of what we offer and want us to organise an activity weekend for your group. Please see our group bookings pages.

Q: After I've been on an event can I get hold of the photos that were taken?

Yes and you can share yours too. We use a photo sharing service called Flickr (www.flickr.com) where you will be able to access official event photos. Although this is a public access photo sharing resource our photos will be in a private area which you will be invited to join after the event. Note that Events Together reserves the right to use all images (still or video) on our website or marketing material. We will ask your permission for any close shots however. Please see our Terms and Conditions for more information.

Q: After an event is there a way of contacting one of the other participants?

Yes - at present you can contact us on admin@eventstogether.co.uk or phone 020 8241 2907 and we will request the permission to send contact details for you from the other participant. We are shorty setting up a 'forum' service to allow you to contact previous event participants as well as creating mutual interest groups and 'blogs'.

Q: What age groups do you usually have at the events?

We don't specify age limits for our singles events as we find that people who are interested in the sort of activities we run are found across a reasonably wide age range. However we have previously had clients with ages ranging from as young as 24 and up to 56 and everyone has got on together very well. Typically 85% of our participants are between 30 and 45 however.

There's an element of self-selection too in that, for example many people ski or go walking from childhood to retirement and beyond, but less 50 year olds tend to want to throw themselves down waterfalls on a canyoning trip! Our average age is 35. Note that from November 2006 government legislation means that it may be illegal to specify a specific age or age range for an event. Please see our Terms and Conditions for more information.
