Sailling East Cowes marina

What it is!

The dictionary defines sailing as the the skillful art of controlling the motion of a sailing ship or smaller boat, across a body of water using wind as the source of power. A bit prosaic perhaps and I think Dame Ellen McArthur would say there's a lot more to it than that!

There's plenty more to enjoy in a yacht cruise though - the atmosphere of the open sea, spectacular views and of course you can't beat the exhilaration as the sails catch and control the wind and your boat speeds over the waves. Sailing is also very much about teamwork and our partners’ skippers will give you the opportunity to safely participate at a level you feel comfortable with, whether you're a complete novice or seasoned sailor. The key thing is to participate by working with your crew. You will learn how by working together you can get the most out of the vessel and you'll certainly get to know everyone else on board very quickly this way.

Skippers will provide expert tuition and support during the day. They are fantastic at ice breaking conversations.

The Group

Events Together Single Sailing weekends will involve you being part of a group of up to 10 per yacht who will get as much fun out of being together as a group as being on board. You'll get to know the other participants by helping each other whilst sailing the yacht, and generally ‘mucking in’ on board.

We will aim to show you a taste of some of life on the ocean waves that attracts many, many people to this activity. Above all you’ll be in great company with a group of like-minded active singles and you'll have a great time - together!

Personal equipment and clothing to bring

(note that this may vary for each event depending on the Charter and the time fo year so please check your final itinerary in advance - you will be sent this at least a week before your chosen event)

  • Sleeping bag
  • Towel
  • Soft shoes with light-coloured soles. Don’t bring black-soled shoes for use on board as they mark the deck.
  • Warm clothing - e.g. fleece, hat, gloves and Gore-Tex or wind proof jacket/trousers if you have them. You don’t need to bring foul weather gear, as this will be provided should we need it.
  • Sunscreen and sunglasses.
  • Something to wear to the pub
  • Try to pack light, as there isn’t a lot of storage space on board.

Note: The trip will only be called off due to poor weather in the event of severe conditions (i.e. gales) if this does happen (and we hope it’s very unlikely) we will reschedule the event for a future alternative date

Health and Safety

When you go sailing and power boating with Events Together we take your comfort and safety very seriously so we have chosen to work with a charter company with many years experience in the business operating fully equipped new state of the art luxury yachts and crewed by highly experienced and qualified skippers. Skippers will give a full safety briefing once aboard the yacht before leaving harbour, and provide expert tuition and support during the day.

We want to make the event as enjoyable as possible for you and as well as thinking about your safety we will be thinking about your comfort so will be using the latest foul weather clothing (should you need it) to ensure you will be, warm and dry throughout the day. This is all included in the weekend package by the way. Please bear in mind that you may feel a little chilly at times and it’s possible that you may get a little wet if the wind is up, but we think you’ll quickly realise that this is all part of the fun!
